王祥臥冰求鯉

晉朝時的王祥以孝道著稱。王祥的母親在他幼時就去世了，他的父親再娶。繼母很討厭王祥，經常為一些小事打罵他。不久，王祥的父親也和繼母一起責備他，家中無人再替他說話。
王祥的繼母像奴隸一樣對待他。他不得不每天清掃牛棚、做繁重的家務。王祥聽從繼母的吩咐，沒有一句怨言。他做每件事都很認真踏實。盡管遭受極差的對遇，但他對父母仍恭順孝敬。
有一天，繼母病重，臥床不起。她想吃鯉魚，但當時是冬天，河流都結冰了，到哪裡去給她買鯉魚呢？王祥於是走到結冰的河邊。他解開衣服，躺到冰上，希望用自己的體溫融化冰，同時請求神靈幫助他。突然，他腳下的冰層融化了，跳出了一條鯉魚！這就是二十四孝中「臥冰求鯉」的典故。
東漢末年，諸侯混戰，狼煙四起。王祥的父親去世了。為躲避戰禍，王祥帶著繼母和異母弟弟來到遠離城市的廬江，供養他們達30年之久。他的孝心深深打動了徐州刺史呂虔，呂虔任命他為自己的佐官。後來，王祥先後任縣令、大司農、司空、太尉等職；西晉建立後，拜太保，進封睢陵公。
大家都說，王祥之所以獲此高位，是因為他盡管備受苛責，卻始終孝順父母、毫無怨言。
而王祥臥冰求鯉的故事，也在《二十四孝》中成為典範，流傳至今。

It’s too bad this beautiful story will probably not make it to the classroom, though I pray it does.
Tho I understood the story, the words and images garnered from within, did not speak to me. Not until I read one of the comments did I realize that I am in the same position with different circumstances but equal challenge. Now I realize that I, too, must be true to my calling and no matter the treatment from those with whom I live, I must be faithful to the God I serve and in Whose name I serve others.
I said, “yes I have experienced how God rewards good or bad behavior.” It is good to give goodness to receive goodness. Always remember that both good and bad behavior is increased to being better or worse when you receive your selected behavior toward others.
The power of Love expressed through the human spirit; regardless of adverse circumstances, is unbeatable- At the end “Love” always triumph!!
A beautiful story! Would be a wonderful world if everyone would read it and work to be like the young man in the story.

A very interesting story which can be understood fully when one is raised within the wonderful culture depicted in the story. For those raised in other cultures, the example provided gives readers a model applicable to all cultures & to all peoples.
Generosity towards others is a wonderful human quality that -through many different cultural examples- appear in ALL CULTURES.
